Dr. Steven W. Jewell Presented with Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association’s President’s Award
Akron, OH - 06-01-2007 -
Dr. Steven W. Jewell, Medical Director of Child Guidance & Family Solutions, recently received the President’s Award for exemplary leadership at the Annual Meeting of the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association (OPPA) on April 14, 2007. In her remarks at the meeting, outgoing OPPA President Marion Sherman, M.D. commended Dr. Jewell for his leadership over the past year as a member of the OPPA Council and Co-Chair of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Committee.
While giving the award to Dr. Jewell, Dr. Sherman highlighted OPPA’s accomplishments over the past year, as well as Dr. Jewell’s valuable role in reaching them. Dr. Jewell was also recognized for his significant contribution towards a new Strategic Plan and name change of the organization. Formerly titled the Ohio Psychiatric Association, the organization will now be referred to as the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association, to emphasize the fact that psychiatrists are, first and foremost, fully trained physicians.
Dr. Jewell’s commitment and time to advocacy initiatives on behalf of community child psychiatrists, as well as children and families suffering from mental health disorders, is impressively divided between many roles. He also serves as a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM), founding member of the Ohio Alliance for Children’s Mental Health and board member of the American Association of Community Psychiatrists.
Child Guidance & Family Solutions has remained Summit County’s leading provider of behavioral and mental healthcare to adults, children and families for close to 70 years. The Agency provides treatment and prevention services to over 4,000 children and 1,000 adults yearly and employs 150 professionals and support staff. Their counselors and care coordinators are also on-site in numerous area school districts. For more information please call (330) 762-0591 or visit www.cgfs.org.
