Do you worry because your child is not doing well academically? Is he or she disruptive in the classroom, having problems with friends or acting moody? All of these could be symptoms of a child struggling with emotional, social and/or behavioral challenges.
The reasons children have trouble at school are varied and complex. Sometimes bad behavior is the result of a child struggling with a traumatic experience. Often overlooked, drug and/or alcohol use also can be possible causes for difficulties at school.
Child Guidance & Family Solutions has developed collaborative programs based on the fact that family and teachers are the most important influences in a child's life. We work in partnership with you and your child’s teacher(s) to understand what has led to the difficulties your child is experiencing. This understanding often leads to a better understanding of helpful ways to motivate and communicate with your child which can, in turn, lead to a more positive and successful school experience.
CG&FS partners with many area schools, where our professional therapists provide individual counseling to children, consultation to teachers and advice to parents about how to encourage and support your child at school. If your child is emotionally troubled in some way, we will help you understand this and work with you to improve your family life and your child’s school experience.
