Family Academic Collaborative Treatment Team Provides a Safety Net for Children with Emotional, Behavioral and Social Challenges.
Multiple threads together create a safety net of support.
The Need
Teachers can get back to teaching. Disruptions caused by children facing emotional and behavioral disorders pose challenges to the entire class and creates obstacles to both an effective teaching environment and an effective learning environment. As a result, focus on the increasing demands of state efficiency tests can be compromised.
Children with behavioral and emotional needs require a structured and comforting environment where they can learn coping skills, anger management, build self-esteem and gain essential social experiences for their development. FACTT is the safety net that helps to keep kids out of residential placement or removal from the school system.
Families of children facing behavioral and emotional challenges seek a program facilitating collaboration between all of the key elements in the child’s life: the school, the teachers, the counselors, the case managers, the family, the community and the home. Families are often the unidentified clients, requiring the role of family to be enhanced, supported and connected
with therapists.
The Mission
FACTT is a collaborative program that provides integrated education and intensive day treatment for children of Summit County whose social, emotional, and behavioral difficulties prevent them from being successful in a typical school environment. The overall goal of FACTT is to encourage the development of specific skills and personal resources that will equip the child to be successful in a typical school environment. The program assists families in developing the means to both understand the unique capabilities and challenges of their child and to use this understanding to promote their well-being.
Admission
Child Guidance & Family Solutions has counselors who assess each individual to understand every child’s need. Based on admission criteria and the Individual Education Plan, the assessor determines if FACTT is the best fit for the child. If FACTT is not the best fit, Child Guidance & Family Solutions can connect the child to the appropriate program.
FACTT serves up to 24 students. Each FACTT classroom is organized by Elementary (3rd-5th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade) and High School (9th-12th grade).
Weaving a Network of Support
Although children are referred to the FACTT Program in a number of ways, typically a school teacher identifies the need in the classroom. From there the Special Education Coordinator requests a referral packet by calling us.
Overview
Child Guidance & Family Solutions' Family Academic Collaborative Treatment Team (FACTT) is an intensive day-treatment program designed for students with emotional, social and behavioral challenges who are most at risk for residential placement or removal from a traditional
school setting.
FACTT uses best practice methods in all areas of social development, including friendship-building, peer relations, socially appropriate behavior, overcoming obstacles and frustration, developing healthy coping skills, anger management, self-esteem building and more.
Using group therapy, talk therapy, art therapy, and other clinically proven methods, FACTT seeks to stabilize emotional, behavioral and social difficulties with the goal of reintegrating the child back into a traditional academic setting.
Our Track Record
The FACTT program has an impressive history of positive outcomes that help improve school attendance, raise grades and reduce out of school suspensions. Our history of FACTT program success leads to many referrals from Akron Public Schools.
FACTT is a partner with Akron Public Schools, Summit County Educational Service Center and Summit County Cluster.
Highlighting Resiliency and Strengths
Effective treatment of emotional, behavioral and social disorders requires more than simply looking at the challenges faced by the child. Focusing on resiliency and strength in areas where the child is successful is key to building upon existing healthy behavior. With the focus away from solely the emotional, behavioral and social challenges, FACTT is able to use these pre-existing skills to help overcome other challenges the child faces.
Family Focus
Families are crucial in prevention and mitigation of emotional, behavioral and social difficulties. FACTT understands the family element and seeks to enhance the role of family.
