Lily* was five when her parents got divorced. In a short period of time, the little girl grew silent and uncommunicative. She refused to play with her friends and would throw their toys on the floor and try to break them. Her mother, Jean*, wanted to help her but felt completely overwhelmed herself. She was devastated by the divorce and found herself having anxiety attacks in the middle of the workday. Her doctor suggested that both she and Lily meet the counselors at CG&FS.
The counselors in the Incredible Years program helped Lily deal with her anger and sense of loss. They demonstrated ways to communicate with her parents, teachers and friends. Jean attended group therapy sessions where she learned to cope with the problems she was facing. She met other women who were dealing with similar issues, and they quickly formed a strong bond. Most of all, she was able to overcome her feelings of helplessness. As Jean looks back at the past year, she is grateful for all the help she and her daughter received at CG&FS. "The counselors were amazing," she says.
