What is "Movember?"
Wondering what’s up with all the moustaches and beards you see or hear about each November?
For 30 days (the month of November), The Movember Foundation asks men to grow out their facial hair – particularly their “mo,” AKA, moustache – in order to raise awareness for some of the biggest health issues men face: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health & suicide prevention.
Globally, the suicide rate is alarmingly high. Did you know that every minute a man dies by suicide? Or that 3 out of 4 suicides are men? Too many are struggling alone, and it needs to change.
The Movember Foundation is working to educate men and boys about the importance of staying both physically and mentally well. By starting conversations that help make mental health a more comfortable topic, and helping men find services for their unique needs, men and boys are reminded that talking about mental health is not a weakness, but a strength.
By 2030, The Movember Foundation hopes to see the rate of male suicides decrease by 25%. Help them get there by sharing their story and reminding the men in your life to make mental health a priority.
