Trauma Systems for Refugees (TSTR) Model

Our program is a partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital through their Trauma and Community Resilience Center. We use the Trauma Systems Therapy for Refugees (TSTR) model that focuses on culturally responsive services and the reduction of barriers within refugee communities.

We Serve the Local Refugee Community

We serve the refugee community through a culturally responsive lens and offer community outreach efforts using a designated cultural broker, who is part of the refugee community being served, skill-based groups for refugee youth and direct mental health services provided by professionals trained in the TSTR model.

Intensive Home-Based Services

We treat youth with severe emotional problems within the home, avoiding out-of-home placements.

Intensive Home-Based Services is a coordinated program for Summit County youth with severe emotional problems. The goal of treatment is to help youth avoid out-of-home placements such as inpatient hospitalization or residential treatment.

Co-Occurring Home-Based Treatment

Also, CG&FS offers an Integrated Co-Occurring Home-Based Treatment program that serves youth who have both substance abuse and serious emotional problems.

What You Can Expect with Intensive Home-Based Services

These home-based programs include:

  • Family-focused, strength-based and culturally sensitive treatment
  • Services provided in the convenience of the youth’s environment, allowing the therapist to work with the most challenging behaviors as they occur
  • A minimum of 3-5 hours of service per week
  • Three to six months of treatment, as determined by the youth’s needs
  • A single assigned therapist, to reduce confusion to the family and ensure consistency in treatment

For additional information about our Intensive Home-Based Services, email us at IHBT@cgfs.org.

Talking about those challenges with a mental health therapist who specializes in working with children, teens and their families can help build a solid foundation for emotional harmony and behavioral development.

Individual counseling and individual therapy sessions involve talking about your feelings, thoughts, behaviors and the things that are troubling you.
