June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month 

Anyone who has experienced a traumatic event may experience PTSD, not just those who are military personnel or veterans. This month brings awareness to survivors of all types of traumas who experience PTSD.  

 Facts

  • PTSD symptoms include re-experiencing, hyperarousal, and avoidance. 
  • Children and adults can be diagnosed with PTSD. 
  • PTSD may be accompanied by other mental health diagnoses such as depression or anxiety.   

Myths

  • PTSD never goes away
  • Only military personnel or veterans experience PTSD
  • Everyone who experiences a traumatic event will develop PTSD
