Recognizing the warning signs can save lives, especially among youth.
⚠️ Youth Suicide Warning Signs:
- Expressing hopelessness about the future
- Overwhelming emotional pain or distress
- Physical symptoms like fatigue, headaches, or stomachaches
- Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Uncharacteristic anger or hostility
- Increased agitation or irritability
If you’re concerned someone may be at risk:
- Call 911 if there’s immediate danger
- Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
- Ask directly: “Are you thinking about suicide?”—it’s okay to ask
- Listen without judgment. Show you care.
- Stay with them or ensure they’re not alone
- Remove any objects that could be used for self-harm
